Why backpackers come to Chitwan

Chitwan is the Terai, not the mountains. Sauraha, on the north bank of the Rapti, is the village where backpackers stay for jeep safaris, canoe rides and walking tours in the national park.

Two nights is the usual length: one afternoon to arrive and one full day in the park. Rhinos are common. Tigers are not. The heat is real outside winter, so plan the safari for the morning.
